Jukka Virkkunen

Scenes is the longest-running series in my practice, and it began in 2013 while I was living in Brazil. The patterns and colours in these paintings are drawn from various visual sources, such as movie stills, fashion photography, and the surrounding architecture.

Each composition emerges intuitively, without prior planning. Shapes and forms are placed on the canvas one by one, each guiding the next, allowing the painting to evolve organically through the act of mark-making.
